History and the Seraph

Independent New Choreographers

A dance with spoken word and body percussion created for a season of independent new works at PICA in 1994, History and the Seraph was a feminist work for solo performer. The male voice and gaze were interrogated bodily and verbally. Text was adapted from Deborah Levy’s An Amorous Discourse in the Suburbs of Hell, 1990 – satirical conversation between an angel who descends into a bleak British suburb and the accountant she briefly cohabitates with.

PWA would like to acknowledge that where-ever we are in this big Country, that we are with deep time and deep stories with a long history and future of people and place co-existing. We acknowledge the many lands on which we work and live and that the land underpins all life. Always was, Always will be. We pay our respects to their elders  past, present and emerging.
